Last weekend, Jersey RFC Academy under 10s hosted their Newbury counterparts for a series of games.
On Saturday, Newbury under 10s played the Jersey under 10s on the main pitch as a curtain raiser to the 1st team fixture. In front of a large crowd, Jersey started far stronger and established a three try lead by half-time with scores from Ben Le Chevalier-later named man of the match by the Newbury coaches-Cameron Griffin and George Jenkins.
Newbury rallied for the second half, but fine defensive cover tackling from Evan Campbell and Callum Hunter restricted their opponents to just a single consolation try.
On the Sunday, the remainder of the Jersey under 10 squad was split into two teams, and along with Newbury and Guernsey, played a friendly four team tournament. The cold and wet failed to dampen the players' enthusiasm, and all four teams played excellent rugby despite the conditions. This time, Newbury proved far too strong for the opposition and won all three matches.
Afterwards, the Newbury party thanked Jersey for their hospitality, and presented awards to Jack Cox and Matthew Creamer as Jersey and Guernsey players of the day respectively.
