Trojans Success for U11 squad

The JRFCA under 11 squad travelled to Trojans RFC, Southampton on the 16^th October to participate in an age group tournament involving 10 teams from Hampshire, initially split into two pools.

Fog in Southampton delayed their arrival at the competition but the squad soon put the problematic start to the day behind them by winning their first game v Romsey RFC (35 v 0). Further group wins and sublime flowing rugby and tight defence verses Havant RFC (25 v 10) and Vectis RFC (15 v 0) and a draw verses Petersfield RFC (5v5) saw Jersey topping the group and through to the semi-finals.

With very little rest, the squad overcame Overton RFC (10 v 5) and reached the final verses the tournament hosts and long term nemesis Trojans RFC. Stirred on by a large crowd including a JRFCA u10 squad who took part in the u10 tournament, Jersey went behind in the first half following an interception in the backs which gave Trojans RFC a 5 v 0 lead at half time. Not deterred by the half time score and with seven minutes to play of the second half, Jersey increased the pressure and crossed the line to level the score, finishing the stronger of the two teams at the final whistle. Whilst the final was drawn, Jersey were deservedly declared the winner of the tournament on the basis that they scored the most tries (19) and were delighted at their endeavours and the fact that they had finally overcome Trojans RFC in the final stages of a tournament.

Happy and tired, the squad paraded their trophy through the arrivals gate at Jersey Airport to much applause.
