Birmingham & Solihull 3 Jersey 41
Jersey wasted no time in taking the lead at Damson Park against bottom-placed Birmingham & Solihull Bees.
Donovan Sanders crossed for a try within two minutes of the game starting, and although Mike le Bourgeois missed the conversion and a penalty attempt, persistent infringements meant a penalty try to the visitors. Ross Broadfoot took up the kicking duties and converted this try and the next by 'Le Booj' after Brendan O'Brien's quickly-tapped penalty (0-19). Kingsley Lang crossed just before half-time to wrap up a rare first-half bonus point.
Jersey old boy Dan Hawkes notched an early penalty when the game resumed, but then Sanders added a second, and Nick Trower also crossed to make it 34-3.
The Bees were able to stem the flow of points in the final quarter, but just before the end 17-year-old Chris Levesley capped an excellent performance - both by himself and his team - with a 50-metre run to the line. Le Bourgeois had taken up the kicking duties again after Broadfoot was replaced by Ashley Maggs and nonchalantly drop-kicked the final conversion.
James Voss (17) made his debut from the bench in the closing quarter of an hour.
In other games, the headlines were made at Rectory Field where a ding-dong encounter ended with leaders Ealing drawing level with Blackheath with about 5 minutes to play, and that's how it finished: 27-27. Rosslyn Park and Fylde had ultimately comfortable BP wins over Barking (44-13) and Cinderford (37-22) respectively, leaving the league table as: Ealing 63, Ross Pk and Fylde 59, Jersey 58.
Blackheath come to Jersey on Saturday, they're 6th with 48 points. Wharfedale notched an unlikely 8-3 win at Cov, Tynedale whopped Sedgley by 61-17, Blaydon won 28-26 at Cambridge and finally Macc 22 Stour 19.
